Residence Inn by Marriott San Luis Obispo

Great rooms in a brand nee location. The free breakfast is limited, but being free is much better than the $25 only option seen at most places these days.

We had family in town who stayed at the hotel and they had a very good experience. The heated pool is beautiful as were the rooms. Our family said the beds were comfortable and the shower has great water pressure. There is a nice fire pit area with a bar that closes at 10pm for socializing at night. The only thing they would change is more eggs available at breakfast, as they ran out both mornings they were there.

We had a wonderful stay at the Residence Inn. The studio suite was spacious and the bed extremely comfortable, making for a relaxing visit. It was quiet all night. What really stood out, though, was the exceptional customer service. Kevin at the front desk was incredibly kind and helpful. I noticed how genuinely friendly he was not only with us, but also in his interactions with staff. He offered thoughtful suggestions for things to do in the area and remained welcoming and attentive no matter the time of day. I’d also like to recognize Chris, who was working during the complimentary breakfast. He went above and beyond—checking in on guests, making sure everything was well stocked, and doing it all with kindness and warmth. I don’t usually write hotel reviews, but the combination of a comfortable room, excellent breakfast, and truly outstanding service made this stay memorable.

Great newer hotel for the area. The rooms are well appointed. The staff are very friendly. The breakfast was very good. We're staying on the Residence side because there are actually 2 hotels in 1 at this location. You do have to pay extra for parking.

I don't know why it's 2 hotels sharing one lobby. That part is weird, and all the floors connect, so really not sure why there are 2 hotels if it's not separate. Rooms are nice. I like that there's a real door on the bathroom. Not a slider. Will forever hate the half glass shower doors that marriott uses now. Breakfast was good with cage free eggs. Coffee shop and food options next door. Solid option on our road trip up north. Love having a kitchen to prep my own meals.

This new Residence Inn boasts a central location, putting you within easy reach of everything San Luis Obispo has to offer—from downtown and the airport to Cal Poly, beaches, and local wineries. It's a shared building with a SpringHill Suites, featuring a common lobby, breakfast area, pool, and gym. While I understand the potential cost savings of this setup, I'm not sold on the concept. I generally prefer the distinct experience of standalone brand properties, even if the rooms themselves remain separate. While this hotel is new, I found its execution not quite on par with other Residence Inns I've visited. Nevertheless, it remains a perfectly solid choice for your stay. The Good: ⬆Productive Workspace: The rooms feature a generous desk and comfortable work chair, ideal for business travelers or remote work. ⬆Convenient Dining: Several restaurants are within easy walking distance. ⬆Modern Comforts: Enjoy contemporary amenities like abundant USB ports, ample lighting, and a Smart TV. ⬆Thoughtful Storage: Plenty of storage options, including drawers and a full-size closet, make settling in easy. ⬆Pet-Friendly: A big plus if you're traveling with your furry friend. ⬆Inviting Pool: The nice pool is great for a dip, though the absence of a spa was a little disappointing. ⬆Attentive Staff: Both the front desk, housekeeping (daily), and maintenance staff were notably friendly and helpful. Things to Note: Room Condition: The rooms are generally nice, providing a great workspace and a functional small kitchen (dishwasher, microwave, etc.). However, my bathroom already showed some minor wear, and I observed staff touching up wall scratches during my stay. Additionally, the beds are a bit short, which taller guests might find uncomfortable. (A small note: the full-size shower amenities were running low.) Fitness Room: The gym has new equipment, but the selection is fairly limited. It's a plus that it's open 24/7. Guest Laundry: The laundry room is excellent with new, numerous machines. My only gripe is that it only accepts coins; working credit card or app payment options working would be better. Could Be Better: ⤵Uncomfortable Sofa: The couch/hide-a-bed is uncomfortable, though this seems to be a common issue across many hotels. ⤵Disappointing Restaurant/Bar: I was excited for the on-site restaurant/bar (PM service only), as it's not typical for the brand. However, it needs considerable work. On my visit, they only had two of their six listed wines in stock, the menu prices were high, and the food was very mediocre. ⤵Parking Charge: Being charged for parking in a large outdoor lot within a residential area is a personal pet peeve. I understand it for urban hotels, but it feels unnecessary here. ⤵Standard Breakfast: A breakfast is offered, though an earlier start time would be a welcome improvement as well as more rotating hot items as other locations do. And forget weekends, there is a very long line and they constantly run out everything.

We chose the Studio room with a compact kitchen that includes two small stovetops (perfect for two small pans or one larger one). For our 3-night stay while visiting Pismo Beach, Solvang, San Luis Obispo (SLO), and the Sensorio lights, the location was ideal, just steps from the 101 freeway, close to the Modanna Inn, SLO Ranch Market, Sunset Drive-in movies, and within walking distance of other shops and restaurants. We were impressed with the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms, the convenient breakfast options with hot items constantly being refreshed, the on-site pool, gym, washer/dryer facilities, and bar.

If you are looking for a hotel in the area, look no further than the Residence Inn by Marriott San Luis Obispo. Everything was perfect! Thanks to the smooth check in process with Anna and Kevin. Kevin was more than professional, he was personable and accommodating. The hotel has all the amenities you would need. It's clean and quiet and there is a local market literally next door; it has fire pits and food and gives off a chill vibe for relaxation. If all hotels had all of this AND a Kevin to boot, the Marriott chain would never lack for business. Thank you again from a fellow New Yorker!
